Silvia Jacobs Memorial Winter Classic – this Saturday!

This Saturday is the 2nd annual Silvia Jacobs Memorial Winter Classic, at the Thornhill Community Centre (7755 Bayview Ave – West Rink), and it will feature our Open & Practice squad players vs. the Markham Islanders U15 AA team.

Puck drop is at 2pm and there will be a free “try sledge” event following the game, for anybody that would like to hop on the ice and give it a go. We’ll also be collecting donations for the Markham Food Bank (non-perishable food or cash) and giving out hot chocolate to all donors. Admission is free, so spread the word & come cheer everybody on!

Victory at the Winter Classic!

The inaugural Silvia Jacobs Memorial Winter Classic took place at Thornhill Community Centre, on Dec 17th. It saw the Islanders Sledge Hockey Club take on the Markham Majors U14 AAA Team in a sledge hockey friendly, with a beautiful trophy & bragging rights on the line.

Former Maple Leafs PA announcer & Q107 DJ Andy Frost was on hand to announce the goals and former NHL’er Anthony Stewart dropped the puck & delivered the trophy to the victorious Islanders, who won 4-3.

Several fans and family members took advantage of the “Try Sledge” event afterwards, by hopping onto the ice in sledges and learning the basics with some of our players.

Everybody involved had a great time and we can’t wait until next year’s rematch!
