Fundraising online auction – happening now!

In an effort to raise funds for our organization, we’re holding an online auction that runs until 8pm, on Friday, March 13th! Several companies were gracious enough to donate prizes, to assist us in this endeavour. You can find them listed on our Sponsors page.

Click here to view the items up for bid and please feel free to spread the word/share the link!

There is also a “DONATE” option in the upper right corner of the auction website.  This is strictly used for donating money to the club and has nothing to do with placing a bid on an item!  This option will take you over to Stripe, a secure payment processor, but cash or e-transfers are also possible and are in fact preferred, since we’ll receive 100% of the funds donated*. Any Interac e-transfers can be sent to:  islanderssledgehockeyclub@gmail.com (include “donation” in the memo section).

*Please note: We are NOT a registered charity and therefore cannot issue tax receipts.

Registration Day is next week!

Interested in joining the Islanders Sledge Hockey Club for the upcoming season? Registration Day is Sat. Oct. 5th, between 9:30am -12pm, and anyone interested in playing or helping out with the team is encouraged to come out!

Player registration forms are available on our Registration page.  Please have these forms completed beforehand and ensure you’ve paid up, so we can get you set up and on the ice, as quickly as possible.

If you’ve missed this date, don’t worry – there’s still a chance for you to play, or at the very least, give sledge a go at one of our practices!  Just reach out to us via the Contact form and we’ll set something up. 🙂

An early exit

The Islanders found themselves on the wrong side of a 3-2 result vs. Northumberland, on Sunday – ending their post-season run as quickly as it started. The eventful game was hotly contested, but time ran out in the end and now the focus is on next season.

The team would like to thank everybody that came out to support us throughout the year. We look forward to starting fresh in October and welcome any new players, volunteers, and sponsors! If you’re interested, or know somebody who might be, please have them reach out to us through our contact form.

Take care, enjoy the warm weather (when it finally arrives) and see you next season!

A November to remember!

Riding the momentum of an appearance in the bronze medal final, at the Cruisers Cup Tournament (playing 6 games in less than 48 hours), the Islanders kicked off the regular season, with a 2-0 victory over Niagara. It was a hard-fought road win for the short-handed squad, but a great start and important 2 points, in what will be a challenging OSHA “Intermediate B” season.

Islanders featured in Snap’d Markham

The Islanders were recently featured in Snap’d Markham – a community-based, free publication that uses photos to promote life, entertainment and the spirit of the community.

Special thanks to Darrell Hein, for coming out to chat pre-game and take pics of us, the Northumberland Predators, and our fans.

Our upcoming playoff game against the Peterborough Patriots is featured on Snap’d calendar.

Heartbreak in the finals

After a closely-contested 2-0 victory in the semifinals vs. Northumberland, the Islanders were in tough again on Champion’s Day vs. the Buffalo Sabres Gold.

The teams traded chances through 3 periods, with Markham maintaining most of the pressure, but an unlucky deflection during 3-on-3 overtime gave the visiting Sabres the 1-0 victory and a gold medal to declare at customs.

Heartbreak and disappointment aside, the team should be proud of their accomplishments, this season.  We experienced a large turn-over in personnel (losing several veterans, but only adding 2 rookies and a new coach) and still managed to equal last year’s result of making the final.  Congratulations to the entire team, our supporters, and to “Coach Diddy”, on a well-played season!

We now turn our focus to next season and strengthening our team/growing our program. Anybody interested in joining or sponsoring the team can reach us via the Contact form, or by calling our coach directly (Rick: 647-551-5909).
